Cientistas da Nova Southeastern University e da University of South Carolina descobriram o que pode ser uma nova espécie de tubarão-martelo. A espécie que ainda não foi identificada é muito semelhante à espécie Sphyrna lewini.

Aula Prática
No dia 11 de maio de 2006 os alunos do sétimo ciclo do curso de Ciências Biológicas da UNIMONTE, participaram de uma aula específica sobre os elasmobrânquios.
A aula foi proferida pelo Prof. Dr. Alberto Ferreira de Amorim e pelo Prof. Dr. Manoel Mateus Bueno Gonzalez. As atividades foram iniciadas com uma aula expositiva abordando aspectos gerais dos tubarões, raias e quimeras: Evolução, taxonomia, anatomia externa e interna e órgão sensoriais.
Após a aula teórica os alunos conheceram a estrutrura física do NUPEC: Biblioteca, laboratórios, exposição, cativeiro e coleção científica.
Descoberta Nova Espécie de Tubarão
Mexico City, Mexico. A Mexican marine biologist has discovered a new shark species in the murky depths of Mexico‘s Sea of Cortez, the first new shark find in the wildlife-rich inlet in 34 years.
Postgraduate student Juan Carlos Perez was on a fishing boat in early 2003 studying sharks from the Mustelus family netted at depths of 660 feet when he noticed some of them had darker skin and white markings.
